Overview of BootUte 2 and it's features
BootUte is a degrader-like program with many features to hopefully
enable badly-written older (and some newer!) programs to run without
problems on a Kickstart 2.0+ machine.
It enables all types of program to be run, whether they are
boot-loaders, or normal Amiga executables. The system patches only
stay in force while the program is executing, as soon as it stops the
computer returns to 'normal'.
If features a primitive screen-size scalable interface, with multiple
font support (currently limited to any 8-point non-proportional font)
which may look a bit strange if you run it in a mode like Super-72
800x600, because the gaps between the gadgets and the boxes will
sometimes be a bit large. This will be sorted out as soon as I get my
new GUI sorted out. BootUte will then feature a fully font sensitive
GUI.
BootUte also contains an AREXX port which enables you to call all
'GUI' features, and a few more.

*
commodities.library v37.
*
iffparse.library v37.
*
rexxsyslib.library v36.
installed in the LIBS: drawer.
Extended features are available when you have extra memory, a more
powerful CPU, and FPU, extra disk drives etc.
Approximately 300k of RAM is necessary to use BootUte 2 when all 3
windows (Main, Preferences page 1 and Preferences page 2) are open.
CBM Installer is necessary if you wish to install BootUte using the

Usage instructions
When you start BootUte it may bring up a requester telling you that
then 'ENVARC:TLS/BootUte' directory doesn't exist. It gives you the
option of creating it. I suggest you create it for 2 reasons :
1) It stops the requester appearing on startup
and 2) It enables BootUte to save it's preferences to disk.

System Options
Force library versions
(F)
This feature enables you to change the versions of 'exec.library'
'intuition.library', 'graphics.library' and 'dos.library' to new
versions to make software think that your computer has a
different ROM to the one it really contains.
I do not advise using this option to set your library version to
higher than the current version as it may cause your software to
crash due to features being unimplemented.
Options are : Don't force, v33 (1.2), v34 (1.3), v36 (2.0),
v37 (2.04), v38 (2.1), v39 (3.0) and v40 (3.1)

**********************************************************************
EH-Pro information
EH-Pro (Exception Handler-Professional) is an update to EH (Exception
Handler).
EH was written by Oliver Norton, a friend of mine, (Edge). It caused
illegal processor exceptions to invoke it, rather than causing a
GURU.
Oliver started development of EH-Pro in about March 1994, but has
since sold his Amiga. I have been given all of the features list for
EH-Pro, so I am going to be writing the 'update'. I also have his
source code, but I think it will be easier to start from scratch,
rather than trying to understand his code :-)
Expect EH-Pro to be released around July or August this year.

2.1 Released on the June 1995 coverdisk of Amiga User
International
Special version only for distribution by the magazine
'Amiga User International'. Features a few more options than
the public (2.0) version. Also a few minor bugs have been
fixed.
2.2 Internal release
This version fixed a few bugs found in the previous versions.
It was released to a few beta-testers, but wasn't released
publically.
2.3 Released 10-May-95
Fixed yet more bugs that I have found (does anybody else find
bugs ?).
Now all features for registered users can be unlocked when an
appropriate key-file is found.
2.4 Released 25-May-95
Yet more bugs fixed, most of them minor.
The unregistered version now has all features enabled to let
people try it out fully before they decide to buy it, but
there are several annoying delays and requesters to encourage
them to register.
Documentation partially re-written to reflect the fact that
all features are available to all users.
BCPL DOS option disabled due to several bugs. I will bring
back this option as soon as I can work out why it is causing
so many different problems.
2.5 Released 25-June-95
One quite major bug fixed that caused BootUte not to work on
any machine running Workbench prior to version 2.1. I forgot
that in order to have an ASL screen mode requester you need
asl.library v38 or above.
Minor bug found that caused the PAL/NTSC selection to only
work the first time it was selected.
2.6ß Released to 10-July-95 to 29-July-95
to 26ß3
Only released to some beta-testers in order to help find a
bug when running on an NTSC machine.
2.6 Released 30-July-95
Fixed quite a major bug that caused BootUte not to open it's
screen when run on an NTSC machine, when the PAL monitor
driver isn't installed in the 'DEVS:Monitors' directory.
Apparantly when you are asked if you want to create the
BootUte directories in ENVARC: it only creates the TLS
directory, and not the BootUte directory. I have been unable
to duplicate this problem so I have left it as it is.
2.61 Released 03-August-95
Fixed the bug that caused BootUte to cause a guru on exit
when run on a machine with more than 8 megs of free RAM.
2.62 Released 25-September-95
Fixed a major bug that could cause a crash if a certain
combination of options were used.
CliExec
is included in the BootUte package now, this small
program allows BootUte to execute programs that require
command line arguments.

* The future of BootUte 2 *
**********************************************************************
Future improvements and updates for BootUte 2
I intend to fix all bugs in BootUte 2 as soon as I am notified of
them.
Improve the GUI layout system currently in use. This will enable the
GUI to be font and screen-mode sensitive. This will be implemented as
soon as I have enough spare time between doing university work and
working on
Exception Handler Professional
.
I am going to add an option where you can pass command line arguments
or Workbench tooltypes to a program when it is started. This will
make it possible to 'emulate' startup from the CLI/Shell or the
Workbench.
Any other suggestions about possible features will be greatly
appreciated.
I am starting work on version 3 which will implement the new GUI
layout system, all of the features of version 2, and some features
requested by the users. Due to the new GUI system version 3 should be
significantly smaller than the current version.
I intend to have version 3 completed by the end of September 1995, so
I won't be developing version 2 any further, though I will fix any
bugs that I am notified of.
Registered users will be able to use their Keyfile with version 3
when when it is released.

Piracy
Have you got a hacked copy of BootUte, or a hacked keyfile ?
You have?
How do you feel like getting a fully legal version for
FREE
then?
If you do then follow these simple instructions :
Please note that I am not going to report you to any organisation such
as FAST, the Police etc. this is not what I'm about.
Send me a disk containing the hacked version of BootUte, or the hacked
keyfile, your details as required on the registration form, and
sufficient funds for me to reply to you.
Also send a note (on the disk as a readme file, or written) stating
the following about the hacked version :
*
Where you got it (the full address of the shop, person etc.)
*
When you got it
*
How much you paid for it.
In return I will send you a fully registered version of the program
for free, providing that the hacked version you sent me works 100%
according to my tests.
Special Message to rASCAL/SHOOT

Message to rASCAL/SHOOT
Hello you sad piece of shit, you made a nice try at cracking BootUte,
two versions in fact, gosh you must be clever, is that what you
think? because if it is you're sadly mistaken. Any
LAMER
(and that's
what you are) can do most of what you did.
Hey, guess what 'rASCAL' (shit handle, couldn't you think of anything
good?) knows how to use a hex editor, I wonder how many years it took
you to be able to work out how to use it :-)
I like the imaginative way you 'cracked' BootUte. When I first found
out that somebody had cracked it I was a bit pissed off to say the
least, but when I saw what you'd actually done it made my cry, not
with sadness or anger, but with laughter, and lots of it. If you
honestly think that all it takes to crack a program is to change the
text and to skip the part where the program loads the keyfile then
you're even more stupid than anyone I know, in fact I think a pile
of horse shit is cleverer than you if that's what you think.
I bet you went to all of your mates and were boasting about how you'd
cracked this piece of software, and they thought you must be really
good, well if any of them are reading this I hope they realise how
much of a sad shit you are.
I'm quite flattered that you actually felt that my program was good
enough to warrant being cracked, it's just a shame you didn't do a
very good job at it, I do enjoy ripping apart lamers like you.
If you're brave enough to either e-mail me, or write to me then I
am willing to hear what you have to say about yourself.
I would like to know one thing, why did you bother cracking BootUte,
it's not as though it was entirely necessary, especially as it works
100% even if you're not registered, and there are no limits on how
long the unregistered version can be used for.
How many other lamers are in SHOOT? Nobody I've talked to has ever
heard of your group - and I've talked to a lot of guys from the
Amiga scene on IRC, and elsewhere, BTW you're ANSI BBS ads are
really good, I don't think I'd better call you're BBS's as I don't
think I'm elite enough.
Oh, I've got it, you think you're an elite guy, oh no, and I thought
you were a complete lamer. Personally I think that in the Amiga scene
we don't need complete lame shits like you, maybe you ought to piss
off to a scene where you'd be more worth while, maybe somewhere like
the ST scene (no disrespect to ST owners here) because it is already
dead.
OK you sad lamer I'm waiting for you to contact me, if you read the
rest of this documentation (oops, I forgot you can't read either, you
should go and get you're mum to read it out to you) you can find out
where to contact me, and I'm sure someone with your apparant lack of
intelligence can select the best method with which to contact me.

* CliExec *
**********************************************************************
What is CliExec and how do I use it
CliExec is a simple program that is designed to be used with BootUte
to enable you to run any program that requires CLI arguments. To use
it type the following at the cli :
SETENV BUEXEC="command to execute"
Run BootUte, then load the program 'CliExec' into BootUte, select the
appropriate preferences options, then select execute.
Examples of the SETENV command are :
SETENV BUEXEC="DIR RAM:"
SETENV BUEXEC="SSBOOT SWOS" (for Sensible Soccer)
